“Why did you quit TV to be a podcast producer?” That’s the question people most often ask me.
In a way, it’s more challenging – when we watch videos, our vision and hearing are both activated, which helps filmmakers hold our attention for a bit longer.
But that’s not the case with podcasts. There are only two tools in audio storytelling: sound and silence. And our ears are much pickier than our eyes, which means a compelling narrative matters more than anything.
I’m currently taking care of Bloomberg’s podcasts in Asia. Before that, I produced Bloomberg Daybreak Asia, a daily live news show that analyzes all the essential news stories for the day ahead.
I was previously a podcast producer at the South China Morning Post, where I produced two award-winning podcasts — Eat Drink Asia and Inside China Tech. I also show up on WNYC's Radiolab occasionally and have freelanced for various programs including Morgan Stanely's Thoughts on the Market and Goldthread.
Before joining the SCMP, I spent two years as a TV producer making mini-documentaries and studio interviews in Washington, D.C. I have worked with Thomson Reuters, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and the Institute of International Finance on reporting, content production, and research.
